Delight Yourself in God

What does Psalms 37:4 mean when it encourages us to delight in God? One way you may take delight in God is to be delicately aware of the subtle ways God move in your midst?

Quite often we don’t even catch a whiff of God’s presence. We are often so preoccupied with other consuming things, we miss out on His presence. Some tourists were visiting New Zealand, and a very delicate tea was served to them. And they complained that it had no flavour, that there was nothing special about the tea. But in reality, that was only because they drowned the flavour with heaps of sugar and loads of cream. In the same way many of us have cluttered our lives with so many activities we miss out on the exquisite ways in which God is moving in our lives.

What a sheer waste! To have the Creator God moving with us and yet to be oblivious of it. Consequently, many things pass us by. We pine for love and acceptance and yet cannot see that when someone says “I missed you”, it is God moving sovereignly in your life. When someone gives you a hug, God is affirming His love for you. When something falls into place, three months after you’ve prayed, it has been God moving in your lives.

Jesus did not look for God among the pious people in the sanctuary. He saw God in the widow who had only two pennies left to her name. He saw God in a tax-collector who didn’t know how to pray. He heard God speaking when he saw the lilies growing in an open field; when he saw a shepherd finding his sheep. He could sniff out what God was saying when He saw some sparrows being sold for a song in the market. He heard what God was saying when he was wandering waist-high among the golden stalks of wheat in the wheat-fields; when he was sitting with other guests at a wedding party.

This man was a master at finding God where most people didn’t. Because He delighted in God.

Pray for God to sharpen your vision for signs of His presence in your lives. You will be amazed what you can discover in the simplest circumstances of your lives.
